Apps (non-disaster)

Here are a few examples of apps that we sometimes mention in our non-disaster training programs. Some are helpful with licensure prep, one helps with writing for publication/blogging, and others are useful in ongoing clinical practice. Many additional Apps for Emergency and Disaster Workers are posted under the DMH tab.

Day One Journal

Day One is a simple way to journal your thoughts, memories, reactions, and images, They can then be synced and backed up in the cloud.  Workers who are doing difficult jobs, starting new assignments, retiring, taking a trip, grieving a loss, and/or gathering material in advance of a submitting a publication or blog  will like this app. Here is a link:

Quizlet

We highly recommend making and using flashcards as part of your study process while preparing to take licensing exams. Much of the learning occurs in the process of preparing the cards and doing that on paper works fine. But, if you prefer an app, this free one lets you make and use your own cards. The app allows you work with others and share questions within a study group. The app also lets you search and use card sets that others have created (e.g., search LSW). Here is a link:

Social Work Lite

This app from the Apple Store offers some free questions for people who use that platform. Here is a link:

Tactical Breather

The Tactical Breather app can be used to gain control over physiological and psychological responses to stress. Through repetitive practice and training, anyone can learn to gain control of your heart rate, emotions, concentration, and other physiological and psychological responses to your body during stressful situations (including the stress involved in taking a licensing exam). Although it talks about breathing out through your mouth, the entire box-breathing process can be done through you nose and can be done silently (e.g., in exam conditions or in workplace meetings when you don't like what you are hearing). Here is a link:

YouTube

Mixed in with all the viral videos on YouTube, there are many with significant educational value. We gathered some of those together in our playlists. Watch them from you computer, phone, and tablet and you will learn more about topics that may help you pass your test and/or survive and thrive in your career. Here is a link:
